Durbar is, the spectacular traditional parade of horsemen from the various districts of Kano & Katsina emirates assembled to exhibit horsemanship and pay homage to the Emir (king) during sallah (Islamic holidays) and on special occasions. It is sometimes held as a mark of honor for visiting dignitaries. This colorful procession full of pomp and pageantry is led by the Emir and features contests among the royal cavalry (horse & camel), drummers, trumpeters, praise singers, acrobats, wrestlers, jugglers, snake charmers and various other entertainers. It depicts past glories of the emirates before the influence of western culture.
